I remember the early morning,
The chill of January winter
warded off by the warm
adrenaline pumping through my veins.
My vow to get up early
To see the sunrise
kindly aided
by the presence of a clear,
cloudless sky.
I remember barely setting two feet
on the sand before being frozen
in awe of the sky, mere
seconds passed before it mesmerised my eyes.
The sky was a celebration of orange,
different shades of amber, a carnival collage
that framed the emerging sun.
I remember the soles of my feet
dancing with a nervous excitement,
as I walked towards the edge of the shore
The cold sand tingled between my
toes, occasionally I’d stop and scrunch
them up in unison, temporarily burying
each toe with a dusting of sand.
The point at which the sand met the sea,
became nature’s observatory,
the perfect place where I stood and
watched the dawn of daybreak,
Marvelling at this hot near perfect ball of plasma.
Its spherical appearance looked
like a gravity defying tangerine,
shades of gold and red the other
conspicuous contributors to its
luscious livery. Night had stood aside,
light energy had started to
embrace my soul inside.
I remember the waves nudging the
tips of my toes, the sea seemingly
competing with the sun for my attention,
but upon further inspection
I noticed the sun’s reflection,
in the many hundreds of bubbles
that were all connected,
The sea foam had eyes everywhere,
the the rainbow colours born from refraction
conveyed a metaphorical insistence
that they were not at odds,
preferring instead to embrace one another, I had witnessed a collaboration which, by definition, was beautiful.
I remember,
Holding up my hand
watching in awe
as splintered beams of sunlight
shone through the gaps between my fingers.
The sun was nature’s citadel nature’s sight,
My happiness danced around its
architecture and soared like a kite.
I remember glancing back at my footprints,
Which had paved a path to paradise.
I recall switching off my hearing aids to feel
the vibrations of the waves
create a lingering rhythm,
Unforgettable moments
Tattooed on my heart.
And I whispered to the aurora,
Goddess of the dawn,
Thank you.
